We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Fairer Futures Programme, a collaborative initiative by Miss Macaroon and Midcounties Co-operative, aimed at transforming the lives of young people facing employability challenges.
🚀 Empowering Young Lives:
In response to the rising youth unemployment rates, our programme focuses on providing one-to-one support, training, and work experience for individuals overcoming various obstacles, from social anxiety to issues around childcare.
🌈 Creating Positive Impact:
Over the next three years, we’re dedicated to creating opportunities that empower participants to achieve their long-term career ambitions. The programme not only aims to equip individuals with tools for a brighter future but also seeks to contribute to local economies and address recruitment challenges in sectors like retail and childcare.
🤝 Community-Centric Approach:
Operating from the heart of Walsall, the Fairer Futures programme utilises space within the Midcounties Your Co-op Food store to offer a conducive environment for training and support. The store has been transformed to include a dedicated training room and a quiet space for counselling, reflection, and mindfulness.
👥 Inspiring Success Stories:
In the pilot phase that began in May 2023, we witnessed 19 young people successfully graduate, with 13 securing employment within Your Co-op Food stores and other local organisations. The success of the initial phase has led to the expansion of the programme, offering up to 40 opportunities for individuals to join and embark on their own transformative journey.
🎓 Catherine’s Story:
““My work coach at the job centre suggested the programme. I came and spoke to them and the team was absolutely fantastic.
Having not worked for ten years I was worried I wouldn’t fit in, that I wouldn’t know what I was doing and that I would actually be a hindrance rather than help. But that was all quickly put to rest and the programme gave me the confidence I needed to realise I was overthinking and I’m actually quite good at what I do. All it took was for someone to say that to me and be patient while I learned the ropes.
The skills the programme has taught me have been invaluable. How to interact with customers, how to deal with food and all the technicalities. I’ve also now got a level two Food Health & Safety qualification, which means I can now work in any setting where food is being prepared.
I, like everyone on the programme, have received help at a level that reflects both my experience and confidence. The trainers and mentors won’t rush you and make you feel you’ve been thrown in the deep end. Having people in the cohort with similar experiences has been eye-opening.
