What is the Kickstart Scheme?
Are you struggling to get a job, never worked before or just graduated? Or maybe you’ve lost your job due to COVID-19 and are looking for a new one. If any of these sound like you, you’re aged 18-24 years old and you’re currently receiving Universal Credit, then the Kickstart Scheme might just be the thing for you!
The scheme is a six-month paid placement – set at 25 hours a week paid at minimum wage for your age. You learn, you earn and you gain valuable work experience in some of Birmingham’s leading businesses.
Miss Macaroon and our partner employers offer Kickstart placements in:
- Marketing
- Business administration
- Retail
- Catering
- Gym assistants
In each of these areas you’ll have the opportunity to learn new skills, attend workshops and gain work experience in one of Birmingham’s most well-renowned Social Enterprises.
“I’m progressing and it actually feels like I’m taking steps forward, which COVID stopped me doing over the past year”
Ben, Kickstart Marketing Assistant – Updates Media
“Before this job I was really depressed, and I felt like I was worthless. I felt like ‘what am I gonna do with my life?’… the Kickstart role at Miss Macaroon came at exactly the right time”
– Samantha, Kickstart Marketing Assistant – Miss Macaroon.
If you’re unsure about Kickstart…
If Kickstart sounds like a daunting commitment, we also offer the MacsMAD (Macaroons that Make a Difference) Programme at Miss Macaroon. The course lasts for 10 weeks and is for unemployed young people aged 18-35 years old, to gain new skills and work experience to build confidence in the workplace. We specialise in supporting people with mental health needs, on the Autism spectrum, with caring responsibilities or with an offending history.
