Training, Young People, and Macaroons
In 2011, a small baking company with a small kitchen and a very small team – just a single person, actually – started up. This small company was Miss Macaroon – and it has now grown to become one of the most well-renowned Social Enterprises in Birmingham, helping unemployed young people gain experience for the world of work. The main products we make are our macaroons, which are hand-made and gluten-free!
Every penny we make from our products is spent on helping young people who are unemployed gain skills that will help change their lives. The MacsMAD programme, a training programme designed for 18-35 year olds, is at the forefront of our efforts.
The MacsMAD Training Programme
The ten-week course of the MacsMAD training programme is tailored to the individual needs of each trainee group. It is designed for young people aged 18-35 to help them address and overcome their personal barriers and get them ready for long-term employment.
- 45% of graduates are now in work, education, or training.
- 86% feel that the MacsMAD programme helped them to develop practical skills such as catering and food hygiene.
- 100% of trainees feel that MacsMAD has had a positive impact on their lives.
Miss Macaroon and Perry Barr JCP
The aim of all Job Centres is to help those of working age become employed – essentially, they assist the unemployed in finding employment, temporary or permanent. The aim of the Job Centres is similar to the values and goals of Miss Macaroon and our employment schemes.
Job Centres not only help their clients with searching for a job, but also assist with writing CVs and finding courses to help their clients learn skills and gain valuable experience.
Perry Barr JCP and the MacsMAD Training Programme
Perry Barr JCP has referred some of their clients to the MacsMAD training programme before. As MacsMAD is a training programme for young people who are unemployed, people who use the Job Centres’ services find it to be a beneficial service.
“I find the programme very useful for my customers who need guidance and confidence, and for customers who have some health problems”
– Perry Barr JCP employee
