Miss Macaroon visited Childline Birmingham earlier this summer to find out more about the work they do to support children and young people. Childline Birmingham were the winners of the Free Macaroons for a Year competition.
Childline is a counselling service for children and young people, provided by the NSPCC. It was founded in 1986 by Esther Rantzen. Childline offer information and support through one-to-one counselling online and by phone, message boards and Ask Sam.
In July, Miss Macaroon travelled to the Childline Birmingham office, located just outside the City Centre. Rosie met with the supervisors and managers who work at Childline. She also met with the volunteers that work in the counselling room. Rosie also presented a box of macaroons to the staff and volunteers and thanked them for their work.
Gemma, one of the supervisors at Childline Birmingham said, “Absolutely fantastic, really welcomed. We love them. Volunteers are very appreciative of them. They are delicious.
Matt, who also works at Childline said, “They’re very good for getting you through a night shift as well.”
In response to the free macaroons for a year competition, one volunteer at Childline Birmingham said, “It’s been nice. It’s added a bit of colour onto shift. It’s been a really nice treat.”
Childline Birmingham is recruiting volunteers for the Helpline. If you want to build existing skills, meet new people and make a difference, volunteering for Childline could be for you.
