Why the insurers aren’t paying out to customers for coronavirus — but they are to investors

Rosie Ginday’s macaroons are not just a delight for the taste buds. Miss Macaroon, her company, gives back to the community by reinvesting profits into training and providing jobs for the unemployed.

When the coronavirus brought the Birmingham-based business to a halt last month, she was certain her insurance, provided by RSA, would cover lost profits.

“I’m really annoyed — I expected to be covered,” said Ginday. “I even paid extra for business interruption insurance.”

RSA agreed with the broker on the business interruption cover.
