What Are Macarons Made Of?

Macarons are made of primarily ground almonds, icing sugar and egg whites plus any food colouring of choice. For filling your macarons usually consist of buttercreams, jams and ganache.

When the ground almonds and icing sugar get mixed together they make almond meal. We then add the wet ingredients to the mix and then we get our batter. This is then piped onto trays in small circles. This is the method we use here at Miss Macaroon to make macarons.

The Difference Between Macarons and Macaroons

Despite their similar names, macarons and macaroons are quite different. The most obvious being they look completely different: Macarons are small flat, colourful sandwich-like biscuits;  Macaroons have a golden brown top made out of grated coconut and are dipped in chocolate. Both, however, have equally irresistible taste.

Are There Different Types of Macarons?

The base of Macarons are all the same but, due to people using different flavourings and food colouring, you can now get any flavour macaron any colour you would like! Here at Miss Macaroon we make base base flavours of macarons which range from tonka bean to mandarin and are all equally tasty.

What Do Macarons Taste Like?

Macaroons taste like a fancy biscuit just way better. When you first bite into your macaron from Miss Macaroon you are going to have an experience like never before. You should see the top of the macaron crack and the buttercream, jam or ganache come out of the edges a bit. You will then taste the flavours coming through with a nutty tone and a hint of the flavour you bought.

Are Macarons Cakes or Cookies?

A lot of people ask this question, and the answer is: Macarons are definitely cookies. This is because two cookies come together to form a macaroons filled with a buttercream, jam or ganache.

Is a Macaron Healthy?

It’s difficult to say with certainty whether a macaron is healthy because it greatly depends on your diet, but the general consensus is that it is. A macaron is gluten free and between 53 and 68 calories per macaron. If you are unsure whether the person you are buying a gift for is on a diet or has a gluten or lactose sensitivity, then this is the ideal present.
