Ways to Spook Out Your Office For Halloween
Share
Halloween is the spookiest, most daunting, spine chilling, ghostly, creepy, mysterious and eerie of all the holidays. The night of Halloween is on the 31st October and for many young children it’s an opportunity to dress up. The idea is that your costume must be scary so many will dress as vampires, or mummies, or as ghosts, witches or even scary skeletons. Many children will go out visiting neighbours and challenge them to either a trick or give them a treat.
Celts believed that on the night before the Celtic New Year. The date marked the end of summer, the end of the harvest Season and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. The boundary between worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31st (Halloween) they celebrated Sam Hain. 2000 years ago it is believed that the ghosts, spirits and souls of the dead returned to the earth and their homes, so people dressed in costumes and lit bonfires to ward off spirits and ghosts. More recently, christian ideas developed on the origin of Halloween.
In the 8th century, pope Gregory founded a church where they housed all the relics of the saints and martyrs. The church was dedicated on the 1st of November and that date became known as the festival of all hallows. The night before was all hallows eve and over time changed to Halloween. All Hallows Eve is also a holiday observed on October 31st, where some people go to church to celebrate All Hallows Eve, they might light candles and place them on the graves of loved ones. The evening before All Saints (or All Hallows) day.
The celebration marks the day before the Western Christian feast of all saints. They initiate the season of all hallow-tide, which lasts up to 3 days and concludes on All Souls Day. Halloween was also the night when you would find your future partner. People would peel an apple into one long strip of peel. They would then throw the peel over their shoulder, and it would drop in the shape of a letter of the name of your future spouse.
