Rosie Ginday Receives her Honorary Doctorate from Aston University!

On Thursday 25th July, Rosie Ginday, Founder and CEO of Miss Macaroon had received her honorary doctorate from Aston University for her contribution towards the Birmingham community.
During the graduation speech Rosie began by thanking Aston University for their recognition of our work with local communities. Rosie is also extremely thankful for the “extraordinary honour of graduating” with the other Aston Graduands. She mentioned that it was a real privilege for her “to share in the successful culmination of three years of hard work for you and three years of support, sacrifice and worry for your parents.” We’d like to congratulate all the other business Graduates that received this honor with her and wish them all the best for the future.
Rosie also spoke about what had inspired her to set up the social enterprise Miss Macaroon, “one of my close family members had been in care when he was young and I could see the impact that this had on his ambitions and achievement. And I met a young homeless man whose mum had passed away in a house fire while he was away at uni, he’d lost everything, his world had fallen apart and he ended up on the streets.”
This is what made her start her MacsMAD (Macaroons Make A Difference) courses which helps unemployed young people aged 18-35 who “may have been in trouble with the law, be neuro diverse, be a lone parents or come from a care background” get into work.
Also, we would like to thank the Miss Macaroon team who were busy working on the new Pickles Project which is a course which helps people aged 18-35 and 35+ from the Bangladeshi and Pakistani community get back into work or start up their own business and thank the amazing board members and special advisors for their continued support enabling us to support the local community.
Rosie enjoyed celebrating with the family after delivering her speech at the graduation ceremony. The Miss Macaroon team has achieved so much through helping young people “connect with their strengths to build their confidence and emotional resilience” which has helped them “present to members of the Royal family, attend board meetings with non-executive directors, serve the Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority, visit Westminster and speak with our MPs and gain employment across a range of industries.”
We’d like to give a huge thanks to the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor for their generosity and thank Aston University for their continuous support over the past three years. Working with Aston University and their students has been an absolute pleasure and we look forward to working with them in the years to come.
