Miss Macaroon Hosts HRH Countess of Wessex for Royal Visit!

On Tuesday, 13th November, Miss Macaroon had the immense honour of welcoming HRH The Countess of Wessex to our Birmingham headquarters for a special royal visit. It was an exciting day for our team, as the Countess of Wessex met with our MacsMAD trainees, graduates, key partners, and board members. This royal visit was a perfect opportunity for Miss Macaroon to showcase not only our mouthwatering, 100% gluten-free macarons, but also to highlight the social impact of our work. Her Royal Highness was warmly welcomed as we introduced her to the heart of our social enterprise.

Behind the Scenes of Macaron Production

During her visit, the Countess of Wessex was given an exclusive tour of our macaron production kitchen. Wearing a disposable jacket and hair net, she stepped behind the scenes to see firsthand how we craft our delicious gluten-free macarons. Our talented Pastry Chef, Jenny Harris, explained the ingredients and production methods that go into creating each macaron, sharing the care and precision required to achieve our signature quality. The visit also gave our MacsMAD trainees—young people undergoing our training programme—a chance to meet with royalty, making the day even more memorable.

Supporting Social Enterprise with Tea and Conversation

After the kitchen tour, the Countess of Wessex enjoyed some social enterprise tea provided by Tea People, a partner of Miss Macaroon that funds educational projects in Darjeeling. As Her Royal Highness sipped tea in our office, she was introduced to key figures such as Will Sheperd, CEO of Cohesion Recruitment, one of our vital supporters. The Countess also took the time to meet with our MacsMAD graduates, who proudly shared their experiences and the skills they’ve gained through our training programmes, which are funded by 100% of Miss Macaroon’s profits.

Empowering Young People Through MacsMAD

Our royal guest was particularly interested in learning more about the MacsMAD training project, which offers vital support to young people from underrepresented backgrounds, including care leavers and ex-offenders. Through a combination of training, mentoring, functional skills learning, and work experience, our trainees develop the confidence and abilities they need to secure employment. They leave with an up-to-date CV, a five-year plan, and extensive interview practice, alongside the skills to create exceptional macarons. The Countess of Wessex was impressed by the dedication of our graduates, who presented their work and parting gifts to her before the royal party departed.
