Addressing Youth Unemployment: A New Chapter with the Budget Announcement

Addressing Youth Unemployment: A New Chapter with the Budget Announcement

This week has been an eventful one for Miss Macaroon with our CEO Rosie Ginday MBE attending the Prime Minister’s pre-budget speech in Birmingham, where key announcements were made that could significantly influence the landscape of youth employment in the UK.

This coincided perfectly with taking part in important conversations about youth unemployment and social impact on BBC Midlands Today. I had the privilege of highlighting our work as a social enterprise dedicated to empowering young people and creating pathways to employment.

The Budget’s Promising Reforms

The speech brought attention to a critical commitment: £240 million in funding aimed at improving services to help individuals back into work. With youth unemployment being a major concern, this funding represents an opportunity to support those who face barriers to employment and enhance the social impact of initiatives like ours.

Keir Starmer’s words, “This budget will help to get Britain working,” resonate with our mission. By focusing on tackling economic inactivity and introducing meaningful reform, this budget could pave the way for an environment where social enterprises like Miss Macaroon can have an even greater impact.

Housing and Its Role in Employment Stability

Alongside employment initiatives, the promise of building 1.4 million homes across the UK is a welcome announcement. We know that housing security plays a significant role in a person’s ability to engage in work and career development. For the young people we support through our macaroons and employability training, stability at home can be a catalyst for sustainable progress and personal growth.

Miss Macaroon's Building a Brighter Future event on the 13th of November for policy makers, construction leaders, supply chain partners and social impact organisations will explore these opportunities for the West Midlands.

Reflections on BBC Midlands Today

It was a privilege to discuss our work on BBC Midlands Today and shed light on the challenges faced by young people entering the workforce. Through our training programmes, we see firsthand how skills, confidence, and job-readiness are key to unlocking potential and supporting social entrepreneurship. The feature not only spotlighted our passion but also emphasised the pressing need for systemic change to reduce youth unemployment.
