Desserts to Enjoy This Christmas

It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas trees are going up. Decorations are joyfully being placed across homes, offices and everywhere in between. Everyone is searching for that special gift for their loved ones. Seasonal markets are opening their stalls to sell tasty treats, Miss Macaroon included.

One of our favourite Christmas-time activities is eating scrumptious desserts to our heart’s content. Here’s some desserts to enjoy this Christmas.

Mince Pies

What’s more traditional at Christmas than a mince pie? An English staple able to be traced back to the 13th century, mince pies were once a much more savoury dish. The recipe would evolve over time and become the sweet pies enjoyed in the present. Mince pies are typically served with a drink like mulled wine or a cup of tea.

Yule Log

Yule logs are an iced sponge cake believed to have originated in France, where they are known as bûche de Noël. The dessert is most enjoyed where it originated and in former French colonies such as Canada and Vietnam, though other places across Europe including the United Kingdom serve variants like the Swiss roll.

Trifle

Trifles are a layered dessert usually combining sponge biscuits, a fruity jelly and topped with whipped cream. Fortified wines like sherry are also used, though not necessary. Trifles are easy to adjust to the flavours of your liking, from strawberry to orange and even chocolate. They offer a creamy and indulgent dessert that’s naughty but nice.

Macaroons

Though not a conventional Christmas dessert, macaroons can make any Christmas even better. Macaroons can be gifted anytime throughout the festive season and just as easily brought along to Christmas dinner for your family to snack on.
