Miss Macaroon and Volunteers’ Week 2021
It’s Volunteers’ Week – a chance to thank volunteers and raise awareness for their amazing contributions and the work they do. According to Time Well Spent, 42% of volunteers volunteer as part of a desire to improve things or help people. Here at Miss Macaroon, volunteering works no differently. Each of our volunteers are instrumental in our mission to bake a brighter future!
Miss Macaroon’s volunteers
Diane Rance joined the Miss Macaroon team in 2019 as a pro bono special advisor. Since joining the company, she’s worked alongside MacsMAD graduates to develop the MacsMAD Leaders development programme – aimed at providing further support for young people entering the world of work. Amy Maclean joined as a special advisor at the group’s inception. She is a regular voice at the Board’s annual strategy session, working on ways to further incorporate the voice of our MacsMAD trainees into Miss Macaroon’s MacsMAD reporting.
What impresses me about Miss Macaroon is that it’s not just one stepping stone – it’s several with support and help and care along the way.
– David Clarke
David Clarke joined Miss Macaroon’s team in 2012 – nine years ago! He initially operated as the position of Chair, where he was instrumental in Miss Macaroon’s development. He currently operates as a Member of the Board.
How our volunteers support Miss Macaroon
Diane Rance:
I love the fact that Miss Macaroon offers such a range of development opportunities to young adults, from highly practical professional skills through to confidence building and support with securing employment. Not all of us have the same advantages and opportunities in life and the chance to contribute to addressing that imbalance is incredibly rewarding.
David Clarke:
It’s tough for young people – especially right now, and for very many reasons, to get a job let alone one that has prospects to do other things. Miss Macaroon provides a stepping stone to a new future. What impresses me about Miss Macaroon is that it’s not just one stepping stone – it’s several with support and help and care along the way. That’s one of the reasons why it is a privilege to support Miss Macaroon – the other reason is that the whole team inspires me. And that is perhaps the best reason of all.
Our volunteers’ favourite memory of Miss Macaroon
Diane Rance:
Working alongside Denise Worth since September 2020 to develop and launch the MacsMAD Leaders Development Programme. It’s been incredibly rewarding!
David Clarke:
There’s so many memories to choose from but the best always involve trainees – perhaps trainees speaking of their experiences and how the MacsMAD catering course has made such a difference to their lives!
Our volunteers’ favourite macaroon flavour
Diane Rance:
Lemon, and Raspberry.
Amy Maclean:
Tonka Bean or Vanilla
