Named “sleuth” as this is the scientific name for a group of bears, over 230 bears have popped up around Birmingham, and will be here for the next ten weeks. Our “Forward” bear, designed by artist Edward Thrush and sponsored officially by PwC, was inspired by Birmingham’s post-war architecture, and features famous buildings such as the old library. The design was inspired by the loss of sun bears’ natural habitats, much like the loss of Birmingham’s iconic architecture and the renewal of it’s identity.

You can pick up a trail map to find all the bears in the city centre, or buy official merchandise from the official Big Sleuth shop, located a few doors down from Miss Macaroon in the Great Western Arcade. All the proceeds raise funds for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, so it’s all for a great cause! After a long day of bear-spotting, why not pop down to our shop and relax with a glass of juice or prosecco? We’re open everyday this summer, from 10 – 7 in the week, 10 – 8 on Saturday and 11 – 4 on Sunday.

You can download the Big Sleuth app for iOS and Android, which will give you the opportunity to get two free macaroons with a box of 12 or 24. Not only will you be helping the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, you’ll also be contributing to helping young people escape unemployment via our MacsMAD training scheme.
